Helping my friend A.R. decorate her house for a Symphony fundraiser last weekend has motivated me to get this house feeling more Christmassy. So yesterday I harangued Special K into tromping through the fields with me to cut boughs and pick up windfall from the fir and cedar trees that circle the property. It hasn’t snowed since last week but is very cold. Like -6 cold which is very unusual for this part of the world.

As we gathered our bunches and headed back to the house for a cup of tea, I remember thinking that to finish off the swags I would need to prune the hollies in the front yard but it could wait until tomorrow.

This morning, when I went out to get the paper, I found a bag of holly hanging by the front gate. Not sure if one of the neighbours heard me, or my sister dropped by or one of my friends – but I am very grateful and thank the heavens very much. I appreciate the gesture!

How’s that for getting in the Christmas spirit?
