We feel very sheepish watching the weather forecasts because the rest of the continent is getting smashed with ice storms and frigid arctic weather. I was happy to see the frost here this morning since we need some cold weather to slow the plants down. The bulbs are starting to show and even some shrubs are starting to bud out. We still need to get through at least 6 more weeks of winter and I am hoping that we get lots of rain because we really need it.

This camellia is at the front door. I strung some twinkly white lights in it for Christmas. I took all the other lights down around the yard and put the decorations away in the house, but I think I will leave these ones up. I can see them from the livingroom window at night and they help to light the path to the door. I can’t wait to see what colour the flowers are.

I walked out to the field pond and took some photos to document how full it is and how frozen. It was dry as a bone when we moved here in August. A waterway flows from under the field into the pond and then it empties east to the sea. I am hopeful that we will get some ducks using the island to nest in the spring.

On the way back to the house there is a huge old maple tree. I will rake up the leaves in March and add them to the leaf bin so they can break down.

It is really nice to notice the days getting longer. But please bring on the rain!
